Skateboarding : The Vert Ramp

.

Skateboarding Pictures

Step one
Hopefully you know how to skateboard already, if not you ain’t ready for the vert ramp. Make sure you know all the basics well. Practice on a mini ramp before you consider the vert. It’s a good step to take before you start mixing with the big boys. You need to be able to pull off some tricks on mini ramp with confidence, comfort and style. The better the skater you are the more you will enjoy your experience at the vert ramp, and the less likely you are to be ending the experience in hospital…

Step two
Check out a few vert ramps first so you can get used to the height of them before throwing yourself off. They are a lot higher at the top than they look at the bottom. Getting used to this will help you when on your first run. It’s a bit late to discover you have vertigo when you are on the edge with your board at your feet.

Step three
This is dangerous game so make sure you have some decent safety equipment. It’s highly likely that you go sprawling across the ramp at some point so prepare for it as best you can. Make sure you have a helmet and pads on all your knobbly bits.

Step four
Unless you are a crazy loon or a particularly confident skater you probably won’t want to just go leaping off the top, start off at the bottom and build up speed pumping each side of the ramp. This will acclimatise you to the vert ramp; keep going until to be comfortable enough to hit the top of the ramp a few times, and get down again in one piece…

Step five
OK its now or never, time for the first drop in. Build up the courage; check that the way is clear, make sure there isn’t a fellow skater flattened at the bottom. If you clip someone else on the way down you could create some carnage. It’s a good idea to try you first run in an empty or nearly empty ramp, not only to avoid maiming others but to save you own humiliation…

Step six
Go for it, take a deep breath and go with the adrenalin. Don’t panic and try to relax and be confident. If you do have a spill don’t give up, if you’re a decent skater you will soon pick it up and be performing killer tricks before you know it.

Reading V Liverpool Preview

.
Thirteenth place Reading welcome fourth placed Liverpool in a Premiership fixture this Saturday.

Steve Copell's Reading have struggled this season compared to the superb debut in the first ever Premiership campaign, leading many to believe they are suffering from the ominous second season syndrome.

The Hoops have failed to chalk up a league victory in their last four Premiership games, collecting two draws and two losses. They did look like they were going to earn three points against Middlesbrough on Saturday, but Boro's Sanli's 83rd minute equaliser after striker Dave Kitson put the home side in front early in the second half.

This week there has been reports of some unrest amongst the Reading ranks with striker Leroy Lita and England international left back Nicky Shorey being told that they can leave the club if they are not happy.
Steve Coppell told the Reading Chronicle: "I only want players who want to play for the club. If they don't, it's best for all concerned if they move on."

With a January transfer likely to happen, the duo may find themselves frozen out from first team action. If this is the case, Dave Kitson and Kevin Doyle are likely to be the first choice strike pairing.

Third place Liverpool will arrive at Reading with one eye on their vital Champions League match against Marseille on Tuesday.
Liverpool fans are expecting manager Rafa Benitez to rest a few of his star players ahead of that game, which could mean the likes of Fernando Torres, Steve Gerrard and Jamie Carragher may not start the match, or may not complete the 90 minutes.

The Reds have been in good form lately and comprehensively beat struggling Bolton 4-0 on Saturday thanks to goals from Hyypia, Torres, Gerrard and Babel.

Liverpool are currently in third place in the Premier League table after thrashing struggling Bolton 4-0 at Anfield last Saturday. They are still unbeaten in the Premier League this season and will want to continue their impressive string of results before they face Manchester United in a fortnight's time.

The result may well depend on how many first team members Rafa Benitez decides to rest, this could be a time for Reading to face the Reds and could clim

Manchester United V Derby County Preview

.
Premiership Champions Manchester United welcome struggling Derby County on Saturday in the English Premiership.

Manchester United currently occupy second place in the Premiership following their comfortable 2-0 victory over Fulham on Monday.
United and striker Carlos Tevez in particular were guilty of missing numerous chances in front of goal, in a game that they could and should have won by a bigger margin.
A goal in each half from winger Cristiano Ronaldo was enough to secure the three points in front of a big crowd at Old Trafford.
United did allow Fulham a few opportunities to score, which manager Alex Ferguson will hope not to see again on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney made his return to the side and lasted seventy minutes before being rested. Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra were both substituted in that match after suffering side effects of a virus, United will hope that both players can overcome their illness in time for this fixture.
If they are unable to, John O'Shea is likely to play at left back and Gerard Pique may be given a rare start at centre back. Gary Neville could make his way back into the squad if called upon following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an injury, although a place amongst the substitutes is more likely.

Derby County are stuck at the foot of the table and many believe that they will be relegated back to the Championship once the season is over.
Newly appointed manager Paul Jewell has a tough task on his hand, but he will be encouraged by his new sides battling performance in their last fixture.
At Sunderland, Derby arguably created the better chances in the match and deserved the point that they had looked to have earned before a stoppage time goal broke the Rams' supporters hearts.

Derby are likely to adopt a defensive formation as they will surely aim to thwart the Man United attackers. If they opt to start with two strikers, expect Steve Howard to partner Kenny Miller, although a 4-5-1 system is more likely to be used by the team.

Buying basketball tickets with a broker makes for a smart fan

.
Courtside seats are almost an unknown thing to some basketball fans. The third tier is where most of the crowd resides, trying to pick out their favorite player from the figurine sized athletes on the court…or at least that is what they look like from 50 feet up. While there is nothing wrong with 300 Level tickets, you can get closer seats, even as close as courtside, if you’re interested. Buying basketball tickets with the help of a broker will make you a smarter fan because you will be getting the top tickets to any hotly contested basketball game.

Why buy basketball tickets with a broker? You can wait until the last minute. Life brings adjustments and basketball games don’t always leave room for them. If you want to buy courtside tickets at any basketball game, chances are you will have to buy them very, very early. Once you buy them, there usually is no chance for returning them if something comes up and you have to miss the game. You can forget scalping them, as this is against the law and if you give them away you will lose a considerable amount of upfront cash. The best way to buy basketball tickets is through a ticket broker because you can wait until the last minute to buy your tickets if you have any question at all about being able to attend the event.

It is also a smart idea to buy basketball tickets from a broker because you can get nearly any seat in the arena that you choose. Say you want to sit really close, not quite courtside because you want to save a little bit of money, but still very close. Ask your broker if you can get third or fourth row seats and you will save money and still get a seat selection that not even the stadium itself could offer you.

The play- offs. It is a term that makes a basketball fan gain an elevated heart rate. The NBA play- offs the WNBA play- offs and the NCAA March Madness. These three “Super Tournaments” are highly anticipated and often sell out quickly but most ticket brokers have a number of seats at any of a multitude of games. If you are unsure whether you will be able to attend a certain game or not, just wait. Ticket brokers often provide tickets at the last minute and can get you good deals.

What team is ‘your team?’ Every basketball fan has that certain team that they absolutely love but it doesn’t always mean they are from the same city they live in. For instance, you may live in Chicago but consider the Boston Celtics your favorite team. If the Celtics come to Chicago only twice per year, you may want to get courtside tickets to the games without having to purchase season passes (which most of the courtside tickets consist of). By contacting your ticket broker in advance, you won’t just be able to get a courtside ticket or two (or four or five!), but you will get a pretty affordable price tag as well.

Spend your summer in a horse camp

.

Now, the summer is fast approaching and are you considering sending your child to a summer camp with a horse program? Surely a lot of questions like what will my child learn? What kinds of horses are kept at these camps? Will normally arise.

A summer horse camp is a camp with a focus on horses-riding. The camp sessions may run from a single day to eight weeks long, depending upon the facility and the program selected. Many offer day camps that teach young children and novices the basics of horse riding. Most camps offer longer sessions where they teach horsemanship techniques to a variety of skill levels. Many of these camps are operated on full-time basis, year around horse farms. The summer camp program is great part of what the farms generally do. The farms also raise horses. It may train or board horses for other people. It will likely have programs whole year long, weather and climate permitting, where people of all ages can ride or learn to ride. Horses and horsemanship is a full-time business for these persons. Others are held at facilities that will not be horse farms, but keep all year at least part of the horses they use.

A horsemanship camp is a great way for your young child to learn the responsibility of caring for another living creature. They put children in an outdoor environment and help developing good socialization skills. A summer camp with a horse program has added benefit of teaching youngsters about these magnificent animals and developing horsemanship skills. Summer programs with horses as the central theme and related activities are found in all regions of the country. Some will focus on the equestrian skills and knowledge. These programs will have classroom studies and seminars that include basics of horse anatomy and the nature of horses along with instruction on feeding, care, and riding. These programs will assign the camper a horse for a three-week session. The care and feeding of that horse will be the responsibility of the child there. Riding skills will also be taught. Many camps will concentrate on English riding styles. Dressage techniques and patterns are practiced with eventing and show jumping. Many of these facilities have cross-country courses for more advanced riders and horses. Summer horse camps are often found on horse farms. These facilities include horse stables, pastures, show or performance arenas, and, depending upon the camp, a cross-country course also. Most also include access to trails through wooded or wilderness areas with proper guidance. Some will provide both covered and outdoor arenas. Most are set in beautiful landscapes complete with white board fences and other pastoral farm amenities for safety.

Safety is the primary element of the activities. Riders are always required to wear approved helmets and boots while on the horse. Every effort is made to match the right horse to the camper’s riding skills and their capabilities. Everyone is aware that horses are big animals, and because of their sheer size, can be dangerous in most extraordinary situations. So every effort is made to reduce the possible risks to the most minimal levels.

Family Cycling Holidays in France

.

Cyclists of all abilities can look forward to some fantastic scenery whilst on a cycling holiday in france, along with experiencing traditional French cuisine in the many hotels you stop at on your travels through the scenic countryside.

France is a country that is extremely enthusiastic about cycling, as we are all no doubt well aware with the Tour de France, and they have made it ever so easy to explore the countryside and cities on two wheels, with dedicated cycle paths and routes all around.

Cycling holidays will give you peace and tranquillity with awesome views of countryside, chateaux, medieval towns, hilltops, valleys and gorges and these are just some of things that you would easily miss out on if you were driving through France, and with the rich heritage, extraordinary landscapes and the gastronomic delights can all be appreciated more whilst cycling, especially because of the extensive national network of veloroutes.

These veloroutes will take you along canal towpaths, quiet country lanes and converted railway lines as well as getting you into the heart of the countryside by using voies vertes, also known as green ways, which are specially designated tracks that are completely shut to motorised traffic, you can even hire your cycle en route from one of many locations-velos that line the major cycling routes.

You can still find areas in France that are so peaceful, it is rare to see a car, yet you may be passed by a few very passionate cyclists! Stopping for lunch and experiencing the local cuisine and of course the local wine is must and you can often find fortified villages scattered along the hill-tops and valleys for the most pleasant of stops.

Or if you prefer to have your trip organised then why not let the hoteliers transport your luggage by finding establishments that offer an "accueil velo" which are hotels and bed and breakfasts that cater specifically for cycling holidays throughout France.

With a French Alps cycling holiday you cannot go wrong, as you will be able to discover some of the Worlds most spectacular cycling routes, with climbs like the world famous Col de la Croix der Fer and Alpe d'Huez around Grenoble. But as well as the Alps, cycling in the Pyrenees with its mountain climbs such as the Col de Portet d'Aspet and the Col d'Aspin will provide you with the opportunity to see some of Europe's most beautiful locations. Although these are not for the feint hearted! If you have ever watched the Tour de France, you will have seen some of those mean mountainous routes and the suffering these cyclists go through, yet perhaps this could be just the type of holiday you are looking for!

Also, the Midi-Pyrenees offers a wealth of art and history from prehistoric cave paintings to Renaissance mansions and is also famous throughout France for its cuisine which is rich with foies gras, Roquefort cheese, Gaillac wines, and Armagnac brandy, but to make the most of this region, it is often advisable to plan your cycling holiday very carefully, so that you can enjoy the many different places en route.

Yet if mountain biking and going on strenuous cycling routes through the mountains is not you, then do not worry, there are plenty of other areas in France that will cater for the novice or the family cycling holiday, just like Brittany, this area is ideal for a family cycling holiday, as the coastal routes along the bays are reasonably flat, making the trip easier, whereas the Loire is more undulating, yet fabulous chateaux and riverside towns will enthral you and the family on your travels.

What about the Poitou-Charentes area, which is an excellent choice for those who love wildlife and bird watching, as the area is still extremely rural, even compared to some of the other areas in France and Burgundy is a great place to cycle along the many canal paths.

Then there is the Dordogne which is extremely picturesque, and from the rivers and gorges through to forests and vineyards, this area provides such a diversity you will enjoy the whole experience from the start to finish of your holiday.

Mind you, with a cycling holiday organised for you, there is no need to worry about where you will stop for a break or lunch or where you will be staying, which means you do not have to have your panniers full to the brim, as all your belongings are transported on for you, ready and waiting for when you arrive at your next stop, plus if you decide to add in other activities, such as canoeing and horse riding as well, then your bikes will be transported to your next stop and you will be picked up at a specified location.

Stretch Like a Pro

.
Go to any professional sporting event, whether a football game, soccer match, track meet, hockey or baseball game, and you'll see the athletes warming up with stretching exercises. Stretching is more than a way to limber up for the big game. It's essential for both optimal performance and safety.

Your fitness level may limit you to a morning jog around the block or a visit to the local gym three days a week, but you still need to perform stretching exercises every bit as much as the pro athletes do. To stretch your game or workout to its maximum capacity, here are a few secrets from the pros:

No Pain

Stretching increases your flexibility and, ultimately, helps you to avoid injuries. Most people know that they should stretch before working out to prevent injuries during the exercises, but a few realize that stretching after a workout, when muscles are still warm, can increase flexibility. Take a good stretch before and after every workout.

Small Steps

Don't tackle the toughest stretches first. Work slowly, and progress incrementally, until you've achieved the most difficult exercises.

Be Flexible

While stretching, increase your flexibility by holding your position for sixty seconds or more. While holding your position for twenty seconds is sufficient for warm ups, holding each position for at least 60 seconds will help to develop your body's flexibility.

Stretch, don't Bounce

Be careful to avoid "bouncing" your stretches. In other words, don't go into stretching position and immediately return to the relaxed position repeatedly. Once you've reached your stretching position, hold it for several seconds, and then relax slowly. Each stretching exercises may be safely repeated when they're done in this manner. By bouncing or forcing yourself into a position during stretching exercises, you'll can cause damage or create strain to certain muscles and joints.

We're All Connected

Warm up all of your muscle groups. Remember, every muscle in your body is connected, and most of them will be used while you are exercising. For example, many people tend to neglect their neck while performing their stretching exercises. The neck muscles are vitally important and the exercises are very easy to do. It's as simple as placing the palm of your hand against your forehead, and gentle pushing. The same should be done at the sides and back of the head.

If It Feels Good, Stretch It

While professional advice is important, remember to follow your own personal requirements. It's important to acknowledge and respect your own personal limits and your capabilities. Don't force yourself to perform certain exercises simply because you see others doing them. Pay attention to your body. Begin slowly and increase your limits as your body allows. On some days your body will be too tired and you may have to consider reducing your range of motion.

Rest and Relax

Don't be afraid to take a break. When you rest between sets and stations, you are allowing your body enough time to recover some of its spent energy. It's also advisable to avoid working the same muscle groups consecutively for two days. Muscles grow in periods of rest.

Heed Your Heart

Stretching exercises and physical workouts are great for your body, but remember to heed your heart. Aerobic exercises use oxygen for fuel and are great for strengthening your heart. These physical activities can include cardiovascular exercises such as biking, running, swimming and skipping rope.

Rock Your Workout

Stretching and exercising is not always fun, but music can certainly make it a lot more enjoyable. Keep a radio or an MP3 or CD player close by and use the music to boost your intensity and keep you focused during long periods of training. If you're working out in a group setting, use good headphones to avoid disturbing those around you.

A Stretch A Day

Make it part of your every day routine. Stretch regularly to continually increase your levels of strength and flexibility, and your range of movements. Even if you don't exercise every day, a routine of daily stretching can feel great!

Think of stretching exercises as necessary pieces of safety equipment. You wouldn't play hockey without a helmet or hit the soccer field without shin pads, so don't even think about working out until you stretch out. Stretching can help to prevent injuries, increase your potential and make you feel good all over.

The Development Of Sudoku Puzzles

.

Walk along the streets of most major cities worldwide and you'll be hard-pressed not to see at least a single person bent over sudoku puzzles. The puzzles are instant hits especially in Britain and the United States. Usually misconstrued as a Japanese creation, sudoku puzzles actually trace their origins from the Western world.

Sudoku puzzles are commonly associated with Leonhard Euler, a Swiss mathematical genius of the 18th century. He is credited to be the inventor of the magic squares, an atrocious 81-cell grid that can be filled with almost infinite varieties so that every column and every row contain the digits one to nine. Though the more popular and recent sudokus sport the same 1-9 rule and the 81-cell grid, the magic squares are not presented as puzzles. They are merely expressions of Euler's mathematical genius.

In the late 19th century, the French daily, Le Siecle, came up with something almost like sudokus. But, rather than using the single digits 1-9, the puzzle uses double-digit numbers to complete the puzzles. Following Le Siecle's footsteps, another French daily, La France, came up with its own puzzle version which uses the numbers 1-9. But despite the same rules, La France's puzzles did not divide the 81 cells into grids of nine boxes each. Notably, much like the sudoku puzzles, the solutions to La France's puzzles always had the numbers 1-9 in the areas where the sub-grids were supposed to be. However, unlike the daily sudokus, these puzzles were printed on a weekly basis until the strat of World War I.

Following the thread of its development, the present-day sudoku puzzles first gained audience in 1979. They were printed anonymously in Dell Magazines as puzzles in the collection "Dell Pencil Puzzles and Word Games". But instead of labeling the puzzles as sudokus, Dell put the puzzles under the heading, Number Place. Though the puzzles have an audience, they are not as popular nor widespread as today because of limited circulation. Recent investigation identified the author to be Howard Garns, a retired architect. Though the puzzles did not bear his name, a puzzle history investigator noted that publications that listed Garns's name as contributor always had a sudoku inside; meanwhile, issues without sudoku did not list Garns's name. The puzzle of the author's identity was finally solved.

From the West, the development of sudokus shifted to the East when Nikoli first brought the puzzles to Japan in 1984. The tag sudoku actually stands for the basic puzzle rule: single digits only. Innovations were introduced to Garns's invention such as 32-digit clue restriction, and the rotational symmetry of the clues' positions. Sudoku puzzles received wide circulation in Japan with a number of dailies and magazines producing the puzzles. However, these puzzles were under a different name since the sudoku monicker was trademarked by Nikoli.

After extensive rounds among the world's leading dailies and magazines, the sudoku puzzles jumped onboard the computer ship. Programmers such as Loadstar Publishing published the first computer based sudoku game named DigiHunt. Soon, other programmers and devoted sudoku puzzle enthusiasts developed other programs such as sudoku puzzle generators, sudoku solvers, and now, in the era of cyberspace, online sudoku games. Truly, nothing can stop sudoku puzzles when it comes to expanding its audience.
